It was on the 24th of January when students from Kaseye English Club had a trip to Wansambo Boys High School Secondary. The aim of the trip was to interact with their counterparts in writing, analysis and acting endeavours. The journey that started as early as 4am, saw Kaseye visitors arrive at Wansambo as early as ten in the morning. Upon arriving at Wansambo the visitors had to trek to the school campus following the bad conditions of the road that was even made worse with the persistent precipitation the previous night.
After campus familiarisation, the activities then started with a prayer before short story as the first activity started. The analysis which was fully interactive, saw students from both sides taking an active role by being attentive, cooperative and taking part in the analysis. In some cases, some students asked questions and these were well responded to by Mr Mulenga the convenor on that day and his fellow teachers present. When the actual analysis was done, it was time for the author to resurrect. When she did, everyone rose for a round of applause to Favour Philo Banda. In her remarks, Favour said; “I am so glad that my work has been analysed at this forum. I have learnt a lot from the way it has been analysed, and that I will put more effort to come up with more stories better than this one.” Commenting on her speech Mr Mulenga congratulated her for her courage to subject her work for analysis. He said many authors write but they do not want their work to be critiqued. He therefor encouraged her to continue writing. In his remarks, Mr OY Phiri, the Head of Department of the Languages department at Kaseye, said that he was really impressed with the work that Favour had written. He promised to award to author with a sum of money.
The students continued with their activities and Kaseye students presented a lot of activities like modelling where by specific boys could choose the girls of their choice, dances from Kaseye students too and a drama. The students from Wasambo danced but did not perform a drama. The students took some pictures after all the activities. When the activities were done, Mr Manda the Head of Languages Department at Wasambo Boys High School thanked Kaseye for visiting their institution, he did not hesitate to say that they had learnt a lot from the visitors and that from then on, their goal would be to reciprocate the gesture Kaseye had shown, that is to visit them. At the very end, a closing prayer was made and the show was over.
The Kaseye entourage started off at around three in the afternoon and reached their destination as late as nine in the evening.
